Anogeissus Leiocarpus Bark Extract description

_Anogeissus leiocarpus_ bark extract comes from a tree native to western and central Africa that is also called _Terminalia leiocarpa_ or African birch. Not surprisingly, this bark extract, as with most plant-derived ingredients, has antioxidant properties when applied topically. It’s considered a particularly good source of ellagic acid, a potent polyphenolic antioxidant which is found in pomegranate and many berries. This compound also has proven soothing and brightening qualities. Also of interest is research indicating that this extract has an inhibitory effect on tyrosinase, an enzyme connected with melanin production. This inhibitory effect means Anogeissus leiocarpus bark extract could help lessen the appearance of dark spots and other forms of hyperpigmentation when applied topically. Recommended use level of _Anogeissus leiocarpus_ bark extract is 0.5–5%.
